Bitmine made its biggest ether purchase since June, buying 53,501 ETH worth roughly $131.3 million at Monday’s $2,455 price. This acquisition lifted its total holdings to 5.90 million ETH, representing about 4.9 % of Ethereum’s circulating supply and putting the firm within striking distance of its self‑set 5 % goal.

The purchase followed a 32,447‑ETH haul the week before and brought Bitmine’s stash to 5,901,112 ETH, valued at roughly $14.5 billion at current prices. The surge marks a shift from the summer slowdown when the firm’s weekly buys fell below 10,000 ETH several times as it neared its 5 % target.

Chairman Tom Lee highlighted that ether has outperformed the S&P 500 this quarter, a performance he believes will attract more institutional interest. He also noted that the firm now holds about 4.9 % of Ethereum’s 120.7 million token supply, leaving it roughly 134,000 tokens short of the 5 % threshold.

The renewed buying comes after a strong Q3 for crypto markets. Ether is up 55 % in August so far, while bitcoin has risen 34 %, comfortably beating U.S. stock indexes. “We think this sets the stage for institutions to add to their crypto holdings given the substantial outperformance of crypto versus other macro assets in 3Q so far,” Lee said.

Lee pointed to a possible U.S. market‑structure bill vote in September and fresh demand from Korean investors as potential catalysts for the rest of the year. He expects tokenization and AI agents’ use of blockchains to support Ethereum over a longer horizon.

Bitmine has now purchased ETH for 65 straight weeks since launching its Ethereum treasury strategy in June 2025. The firm has also staked about 5.07 million ETH—86 % of its holdings—and projects roughly $335 million in annualized staking revenue at current yields.
