Mirae Asset founder reveals $109B roadmap for rebranded Digital X exchange

    Published on:

Mirae Asset Financial Group is targeting a 150 trillion won ($109 billion) digital asset enterprise built around Digital X, the rebranded version of the former Korbit exchange, according to comments made by group founder Park Hyeon-joo during an internal staff gathering.

At an event titled ‘A New Voyage Begins, Together,’ Park outlined plans to position Digital X as a central component of ‘Mirae Asset 3.0,’ aiming for profitability by 2027. The platform will prioritize four key sectors: cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets (RWAs), and security token offerings (STOs), while also tokenizing tangible assets such as gold, silver, and electricity. Additionally, the firm intends to develop an integrated on-chain finance ecosystem.

«Our initial goal is to make Digital X a core pillar of ‘Mirae Asset 3.0’ and grow the digital asset business to 150 trillion won ($109 billion) by leveraging the group’s 1,500 trillion won ($1.09 trillion) in client assets,» Park stated.

The acquisition of a 97% stake in Korbit—originally founded in 2013—was finalized in July, followed by its rebranding to Digital X. Shortly after the purchase, Decryptnews reported that Mirae intended to transform Korbit into something unprecedented in South Korea, envisioning Digital X as an ‘intelligent investment platform’ where knowledge, data, and deep analytical insights converge. The company also expressed plans to construct an investment ecosystem connecting RWAs, STOs, stablecoins, and digital assets with traditional financial instruments.

This move aligns with South Korea’s growing regulatory focus on digital assets. With over 11.3 million verified crypto users, the country is drafting comprehensive legislation known as the Digital Asset Basic Act, which will govern stablecoins, virtual asset service providers (VASPs), and crypto-based exchange-traded funds (ETFs).

Meanwhile, Shinhan Financial Group—one of South Korea’s largest financial institutions—has partnered with Visa to develop stablecoin infrastructure and AI-driven payment systems. Using Visa’s stablecoin-as-a-service framework, Shinhan plans to test critical functions including issuance, transfer, and redemption, while crafting a tailored business model for the Korean market.

Decryptnews has reached out to Mirae Asset for further details but has not yet received a response.
