1inch Becomes the First DeFi Ecosystem with ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Certification

    Published on:

The 1inch aggregator team announced that it has received international ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type 1 certifications. Thus, the project has become the first major DeFi ecosystem to confirm compliance with these security standards, the developers emphasized in comments for Incrypted.

The certificates were issued by Degensoft Ltd, a subsidiary company registered in the UAE. This achievement strengthens 1inch’s position as one of the most trusted players in the decentralized finance sector, the project representatives said.

The company said the certification was an important part of its strategy to bring DeFi and traditional finance closer together. After a recent rebranding, 1inch is focusing on institutional trust and compatibility with regulatory requirements, building an infrastructure to interface with banks and corporate clients.

International ISO and SOC standards have been used in the industry before, but mostly among centralized players including Binance, Coinbase, Trust Wallet and Chainlink Labs. 1inch is the first DeFi project to achieve this level of formal compliance, which emphasizes its commitment to security and compliance, the developers emphasized.

The ISO 27001 certification confirms the implementation of an information security management system and the fulfillment of a two-stage audit, while SOC 2 Type 1 assesses the robustness of internal controls and risk management procedures. For the DeFi sector, such measures become significant in the context of the transition from experimental protocols to mature financial solutions.

1inch co-founder Sergei Kunz noted that the DeFi community often talks about convergence with traditional finance, but few actually adapt their processes. According to him, implementing ISO and SOC standards does not contradict decentralization, but on the contrary, it helps to “speak the same language” with institutional partners.

The company said it is ready to share its experience and practices of certification with other projects. The developers believe that this will improve the overall level of security and corporate responsibility in the industry.

To prepare and pass the audit, 1inch partnered with consulting firms zeroShadow and Prescient Security LLC. The former helped develop the control system and evidence base, while the latter acted as an independent auditor, confirming compliance with international standards.
