Bitcoin (BTC) has surged 44% to almost $85,000 this quarter, marking its strongest quarterly performance since Q4 2024, per Decryptnews data. This robust gain follows three consecutive quarters of losses.

Unsurprisingly, some investors are locking in profits, as shown by the net realized profit/loss indicator. This metric captures the dollar gains secured when coins move on-chain at a price higher than their last transfer price.

Analysts consider that prior transfer as a cost basis: for example, if a coin acquired or last spent at $40,000 is subsequently transferred or sold at $84,000, the $44,000 gap is recorded as realized profit.

Following the price rally, investors have recently realized $2.4 billion in profits, according to Bitfinex data.

«BTC holders just realized $2.4bn in profits. At previous market tops, daily realized profits ranged between $7bn and $10bn,» Bitfinex posted on X.

Meanwhile, ETFs keep drawing capital and have now recorded a net inflow of $2.84 billion over six days. That exceeds the profits realized by holders. Additionally, ETFs now show nearly $800 million in net inflows for the year.

Ether is also flashing bullish signals. Per Bitfinex, roughly 410,000 ETH has left exchanges in a month, while U.S. spot ether ETFs have pulled in $680 million across four sessions. This paints a bullish near-term outlook.

At press time, bitcoin, ether, and other major assets showed no signs of weakness following the $452 million Bitget hack.

In traditional markets, rallies in the Dollar Index and Treasury yields seem to have paused for now, providing relief for risk assets. However, oil volatility remains elevated amid conflicting headlines about the Iran conflict. Remain vigilant!

    What’s trending

    — Bitcoin ETFs have wiped out a $5.8 billion deficit (Decryptnews): Billions have flowed into U.S.-listed spot bitcoin ETFs in recent weeks. Consequently, these ETFs now hold nearly $800 million in net inflows for the year, a complete reversal from earlier losses.

    — Bitget’s $352 million hack occurred via spoofed transfers, not private keys, says CEO Gracy Chen (Decryptnews): Crypto exchange Bitget lost $351.6 million in an overnight breach. CEO Gracy Chen stated attackers forged transfer requests to siphon funds but did not compromise private keys. This distinction is significant and indicates a less concerning attack vector.

    — Stocks withstand bond market turbulence, oil pulls back slightly (Reuters): Global equities are on track for their best weekly showing since early August, as AI enthusiasm and prospects of improved Middle East energy supplies outweighed rising bond yields for now. Oil prices dipped as traders assessed the potential for a U.S.-Iran truce.

    — Stock futures flat as Dow eyes fourth consecutive losing week (CNBC): U.S. equity futures were largely unchanged early Friday as Treasury yields kept climbing. S&P 500 futures slipped 0.05%, while Nasdaq-100 futures edged up. Dow Jones Industrial Average futures rose 3 points, or 0.01%.
