Hunter Biden Defends LAPTOP Ahead of Wednesday Debut, Calls TRUMP a ‘Grift’

    Published on:

Hunter Biden is promoting his LAPTOP memecoin as it prepares to launch Wednesday, describing it as a chance to reclaim the scandal that has fueled years of political attacks and internet memes. The token is meant to represent “resilience, redemption and recovery,” and Biden says it will distribute coins to nearly one million wallets that lost money on TRUMP.

    — LAPTOP will dedicate 20% of its supply to community airdrops, including wallets that lost money on Donald Trump’s TRUMP token, while 30% will be linked to predictions and another 30% will go to founders subject to lockup and vesting.

    — Crypto traders have criticized the project, prompting Kraken to remove a promotional post and officials at Base, the blockchain hosting the token, to stress that they did not help design or promote it.

“I understand the cynicism,” Biden wrote in an X post early in Asian hours Wednesday. “Why something that has been so misused by grifters?”

He pointed to TRUMP, which has fallen sharply from its 2025 peak and left nearly one million wallets with a combined $3.8 billion in losses, according to figures cited by Biden. LAPTOP plans to distribute 20% of its supply through community airdrops, including to wallets that lost money holding TRUMP.

Another 30% of the token supply is tied to political, crypto and cultural predictions. Tokens linked to outcomes that come true will be burned, while those tied to failed predictions will be sent to charity.

A separate 30% allocation goes to founders, including Biden, with those tokens subject to lockups and vesting, he said.

He told buyers not to expect him or anyone else involved to make LAPTOP more valuable: “You should not expect me or anyone else to make this token more valuable for you. LAPTOP isn’t just about owning something, it’s about saying something.”

The X post comes after a hostile reaction from crypto traders over Monday and Tuesday.

Kraken, one of the largest crypto exchanges, deleted a promotional post about LAPTOP after traders criticized it. Andrew Callaghan, the video journalist behind Channel 5, distanced himself from the project after his audience was included in a planned token distribution.

Executives at Base, the Coinbase-built blockchain where LAPTOP will launch, also stressed that the exchange had no partnership with the token. Base founder Jesse Pollak said the project had approached his team, but Base made a “conscious decision” not to help design or promote it.

Data said to have come from the device included emails about Biden’s overseas business dealings as well as deeply personal photos, messages and videos involving drug use and his private life. The laptop spawned years of political attacks and thousands of online memes.

Biden is now trying to turn that notoriety into the token itself.
