S&P Global launched the first hybrid index, combining digital assets and traditional stocks of companies related to the crypto industry. The new product reflects S&P’s efforts to create transparent tools for evaluating and investing in the digital economy, according to a press release.
The Digital Markets 50 Index was created in conjunction with the Dinari platform. It includes 15 leading assets and 35 stocks of blockchain, digital assets and fintech infrastructure firms. It aims to provide investors with the ability to track the dynamics of both sides of the crypto ecosystem within a single benchmark.
According to S&P, each asset’s share of the index is capped at 5% and the minimum capitalization is $100 million for equities and $300 million for cryptocurrencies. This provides balance and reduces the impact of volatility of individual instruments. The composition will be reviewed quarterly, as with other S&P indices.
“Cryptocurrencies and the broader digital asset industry have moved from marginal positions to a stronger position in global markets,” said Cameron Drinkwater, director of index products at S&P Dow Jones Indices.
He said the market needs tools that provide reliable and consistent valuation of digital assets on par with traditional assets.
Dinari, which is a partner in the project, intends to launch a tokenized investment product based on the new index. The tool will appear on the dShares platform by the end of the year and will allow investors to access a basket of crypto assets and stocks through a single token.
“By enabling investors to invest in the S&P Digital Markets 50 through dShares, we are not just tokenizing the index — we are demonstrating how blockchain infrastructure can modernize time-tested benchmarks,” said Anna Wroblewska, director of development at Dinari.
The launch of the S&P Digital Markets 50 complements S&P’s lineup of crypto indices, creating a bridge between traditional and digital markets. Experts note that this step reflects the growing recognition of tokenization as a technology that can unite global finance in a single on-chain infrastructure.
